(New Iberia, La.) 1894-1946, August 04, 1906, Image 2 DIED: At New Orleans on Tuesday evening, at 9 o'clock, Dr. August C. Gayle, Dr. Gayle went to New Orleans last week, accompanied by Mrs. Gayle, Dr. and Mrs. Geo. Sabatier, for the purpose of submitting to a surgical operation at the hands of a specialist, made necessary by a chronic stomach trouble. Some five days after the operation, when symptoms of improvement were manifest and with an expression from him that he felt better still warm on his lips, the spark of life suddenly went out. The end, while in a measure was apprehended, was a terrible shock to those who served and hoped. The remains were brought to his home on French street on Wednesday. The funeral took place that evening from the Episcopal church, Rev. C. C. Kramer officiating, and it was largely attended by the sympathizing friends of the family. He was laid to rest in Rose Hill cemetery by the members of Iberia Lodge No 39, Knights of Pythias. The entire community shares the family lost in the death of so estimable a man. Always generous of purpose, jolly and agreeable even under adverse circumstances, he, will long be missed by a far greater circle than those who deeply mourn his vacant place at the family board. The bereaved ones have the sympathy of the entire community.
