(New Iberia, La.) 1902-1944, April 23, 1910, Image 3 Last Saturday night the imbecile son of Mrs. August Gerac, colored, killed her for some insane freak which has not yet been explained. According to all accounts the boy who was 23 years old has been weak minded since birth, but it was not supposed that his mania was dangerous. No one was present in the house when he killed his mother but from remarks made by the youth after the crime it is supposed that he killed the woman because she would not make a fire to warm up the house. The youth said he had struck his mother with an axe handle but did not hit her hard. Nevertheless, her skull was crushed by the axe handle and it was evident that he had beaten her after she had fallen from the first blow. She did not regain consciousness after receiving the injury and died shortly after the crime was discovered. The boy is held pending investigation.
