The funeral services of Mr. L. C. Griffe occurred in New Iberia from the 
Epiphany church last Sunday afternoon, Rev. Dr. Diggs conducting the 
ceremony. Mr. Giffe was a victim of the Flu and passed away at his home at 
Hayes, La. He was well known here where he resided for many years as the 
first telegraph operator placed at this railroad station by the Morgan, 
Louisiana & Texas Railroad Co. Later on he was made an agent at Garland and 
served in that capacity at other stations of the S. P. railroad. He has been 
in the employ of the railroad ever since coming to Louisiana from his native 
state. He leaves to survive him, besides his wife, nee Corinne Patin, a 
brother who resides at Chattanooga, Tenn. Mrs. Griffe is a sister of Mrs. 
John M. Perry and Messrs. Fils, Ursin, Achile and Frank Patin.

Mr. L. C. Gift's remains were brought here last Sunday for interment. He was 
the Agent of the So. Pa. R. R. at the station of Hays, near Lake Charles, at 
the time of his death. Many years ago he was employed in the New Iberia 
depot for the same railroad company as a telegraph operator. While in that 
service here he met and wooed Miss Corinne, a daughter of Capt. Cleophas 
Patin. He his (sic) survived by his widow.
