Gilmore, which occurred at his home in New Orleans, on Wednesday evening last, was received with much sorrow by his many friends here, where for a quarter of a century he made his home. Mr. Gilmore rendered valiant service to New Iberia as a citizen and journalist, contributing in no little degree to her development through the columns of the old Sugar-Bowl, at all times one of the most influential weeklies in the State. It was in his employ that the writer came to New Iberia, and four years intimate association with him unfolded a noble, sensitive nature, a good and true man and the very embodiment of God's noblest work - an honest man. To his devoted wife and children we extend sincere and heartfelt sympathy in their afliction (sic).
