The flu has sorely tried the Hanley family for the past two weeks. Mrs. Jno. Hanley's home in Lockport has nine cases without any help whatever to assist in the care of those ill, and Miss Mary Hanley and Mr. Joe Hanley are both very ill here at home. On Sunday, a message came to Mrs. Hanley from the surgeon at the Hospital where Robt. Hanley was in training that he was quite ill. On Tuesday morning, another message came from Mr. George Hanley who hastened to the camp to be with Robert, that his condition was very critical and to expect the worst. The friends of this family are hoping for the recovery of all of those who are ill. On Wednesday a message came announcing the death of Robert. source: The Weekly Iberian. Last Wednesday, October 23d, a message was received by the venerable Mrs. M. A. Hanley advising her of the death of her son Robert which occurred at Fort Leavensworth, Kansas, where the young man was stationed and served in the United States Signal Service as a radio operator. Young Hanley, who was 26 years of age, was a native of New Iberia and was well and favorably known by many. For many years he was in the employ of the Southern Pacific Railroad as an operator and was held in high esteem by his confreres. His remains, accompanied by a young lady of Memphis to whom he was engaged to be married, were brought home Friday afternoon and buried in the Catholic cemetery after short services at St. Peter's church. To the bereaved mother and brothers and sisters, as well as to his affianced bride, we extend our heartfelt sympathies. *NOTE: www.findagrave.com memorial # 32840981 File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/la/iberia/obits/h/hanley6736gob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/lafiles/ File size: 0.9 Kb
