Hatch nee Laura Virginia Grayson which occurred at the Alma House last Saturday evening at 6:25 was a shock to the community. Deceased had been ill with pneumonia for several days, and it was thought she would recover, worse was noticeable and despite as could be expected considering the nature of her illness. Late that afternoon a turn for the worse was noticeably and despite the attentoin (sic) she succumbed. Mrs. Hatch was well and favorably known throughout Louisiana, having conducted, with her husband several hotel enterprises in different parts of the State. She managed the Alma House here successfully for many years and some time ago went into business with her husband at Baton Rouge. Not being satisfied they returned here and recently took over the Alma House since it was remodeled and built up an extensive trade. She was a native of Monroe and settled in New Iberia about thirty years ago. She leaves to mourn her demise besides her grief-stricken husband, one son, Mr. Kramer Katch (sic) who is a member of the famous Rainbow Division. The funeral was conducted by Rev. Diggs of the Epiphany church last Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock.
