On Saturday, November 20th at 3:30 P. M., a number of our citizens as well as the members of the American Legion Society of New Iberia and some of the veterans of the Civil War collected at the Southern Pacific depot to participate in the funeral of Corporal Chester W. David Hayes who had lied at Bordeau, France, after being mortally wounded on October 3d, 1918. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Roberts at the Methodist church. Thus another hero who gave his life in a foreign land has come home, where he will rest in peace until the dawn of a never ending day. He was a son of Mrs. David Hayes, now a resident of Biloxi, Miss. anda brother of Joseph and Willie Hayes of this City. The pall bearers were Messrs. Edward La Salle, C. Dudley Lemaire, Joseph Daigre, Laurie Lemaire, Archie Cambell and Paul Boutte.
