Henry, a native of France and for many years a citizen of New Iberia, breathed his last on Saturday morning last, after a long and painful illness. Mr. Henry was nearly 70 years of age. About 30 years ago, he moved to New Iberia, with his family and was, up to last year engaged in the jewelry business on Main street, but retired from business then on account of age and failing health. The deceased gentleman saw New Iberia grow from a comparative village into the present city it is to-day. He was always prominently connected with the welfare of his community, taking part in almost every act of benefit to the public good. Mr. Henry was a Master Mason, he having been "raised" un Fort Worth Lodge, Fort Worth, Texas, from which place he moved to New Iberia in the early seventies. He affiliated with Aurora Lodge on July 7th, 1873, and was one of its most ardent members. Mr. Henry was also a Royal Arch Mason, having held his membership in Girard Hope Chapter, No. 33, of this city. The deceased was buried on Sunday evening last, with Masonic honors. The members of his lodge, with several visiting formed a procession to the residence of the family, from whence they followed the remains to the Episcopal church, where the usual church ceremony, accompanied by a short, but eloquent address by the rector, Rev. C. C. Kramer, was gone through. At the grave, the solemn and beautiful Masonic burial service was read in a most impressive manner by acting Worshipful Master King, the responses being earnestly uttered by the brethern (sic) of the deceased man. And thus, a good life has been taken away from our midst. There are many who will miss his pleasant smile, but he has gone to a far happier place, "a place, not made with hands - eternal in the heavens." - B. source: New Iberia Enterprise.
