Lee, we learn of the death of Mrs. Cornelia Jackson, sister of Mr. Jos. Jefferson, which occurred on the 3d inst. Deceased was identified with New Iberia through the ownership of the valuable property corner of Main and Fisher streets, which, by her death, falls into the hands of her only son, Mr. Charles Jackson. The N. Y. Evening Post of the 4th inst. makes the following announcement of the esteemed lady's death: "Cornelia Jefferson, only sister of the distinguished comedian Jos. Jefferson, died in this city yesterday afternoon at the age of sixty-two years. In her youth she was the possessor of great personal charm, and acted with success in both the poetic and the eccentric drama. Her impersonation of Titania in :A Midsummer Night's Dream," in 1867, is still remembered by old playgoers as an embodiment full of poetic delicacy and beauty. Her appearance was greatly altered by a serious illness, and in late years she was seen chiefly in eccentric parts, notably as Tilly Slowboy in "A Cricket on the Hearth," in which she was most delightfully droll. In private life she was a woman of most estimable character and of a studious and refined taste."
