(New Iberia, La.) 1902-1944, February 17, 1912, Image 2 Last Monday night at about 7:30 o'clock, a most horrible tragedy occurred in this City, Mr. Frederick Edgar Lamperez, aged eighteen years and son of Mr. Edgar Lamperez of New Iberia, was stabbed to his death by an unidentified negro, living only about forty minutes after the deadly weapon was plunged in his breast. The young man was in company with two other friends, young Abbey Domingue and Joseph Richard on Jefferson street, and all three were singing and otherwise jollying one another when the negro followed them and mocked them in their singing. When they reached the corner of Jefferson and Madison streets young Lamperez stopped and remonstrated with the negro for his impudence which brought on words from the negro who at the same time advanced upon him with his concealed knife and drove it into the body of the unfortunate Lamperez with full force, causing his death in a few minutes. After committing this dastardly deed the negro made his escape before he could be arrested. Sheriff Henderson and the police officials of this City have exerted themselves to apprehend the criminal, but up to the present writing the mdrderer (sic) is still at large. The Sheriff is so determined to run the accused down that, he has personally offered a reward of $250.00 for any information that will give him & clue to work upon in catching the scoundrel and bringing him to justice and we sincerely hope that he will be caught and punished. Young Lamperez was a hard working and industrious boy and the community sympathize deeply with his family in their sade loss. The funeral was held the following evening from St. Peter's Catholic church and was attended by hundreds of grief-stricken friends and relatives.
