Mrs. Edmond Laperouse, nee Arsene Inbau, aged 70 years, died at the home of her son-in-law, J. E. Hitter, on Saturday last, after an illness of three weeks. She had been for many years an active member of the Ladies Altar Society of St. Peters Church, also of the Socie e de Bienfaisance et d'Assistance Mutuelle. Mrs. Laperouse had been a resident of New Iberia for 38 years and was loved by a large circle of friends. She leaves to mourn her loss nine children, all married: Mrs. Henry Burges, Mr. Willis Laperouse, Mrs. J. E. Hitter, Mr. Walter Laperouse of Galveston, Mrs. John Conrad, Mrs. Geo. Broussard of Opelousas, Lionel Laperouse, Mrs. C. A. Hitter and Valerie Laperouse. Also one sister, Mrs. Cora Gringe, of New Orleans, and thirty two grandchildren. The funeral was held from the St. Peters Church, where Rev. J. M. Langlois delivered a beautiful tribute to the kind and charitable nature of the deceased. The interment was in the Catholic Cemetery in St. Martinville. source: New Iberia Enterprise and Independent Observer. (New Iberia, La.) 1902-1944, July 12, 1919, Image 4 MRS. EDMOND LAPEROUSE. On Saturday, July 5th at 9:20 o'clock P. M. all that was mortal of Mrs. Edmond Laperouse passed into eternity. Deceased had reached her two score and tenth year and for several months had been confined to her bed by illness. Mrs. Laperouse was a native of New Orleans and removed to New Iberia forty years ago where she reared a family of nine devoted sons and daughters and thirty-two grand children. Those of her descendants are: Mrs. Henry Berges, Mrs. Jos. E. Hitter, Mrs. John Conrad, Mrs. Geo. Broussard of Opelousas; Mrs. C. A. Hitter, and Messsrs. Willis, Walter, Lionel and Valery Laperouse; one sister, Mrs. Cora Grinnage of New Orleans. The funeral services was conducted at St. Peter's Catholic church by Rev. J. M. Langlois in the presence of a large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends. The remains were then escorted to St. Martinville and interred in the family tomb. She was a member of the Ladies Altar Society and the Socite de Bienfaisance. The Enterprise extends its condolences to the grief-stricken members of the family. source: The Weekly Iberian.
