1st. Obituary:

DIED: - At the residence of her mother, in New Iberia, on Tuesday, Feb. 6th, 
1900, at 2:30 a. m., Melanie M. Pointis, widow of Charles Maridat. Aged 48 
years. The funeral took place from the Catholic Church this morning, February 
7th, at 10 o'clock a. m.

The entire community was shocked by the announcement, on Tuesday last, of the death of
Mrs. Melanie M. Pointis, widow of Auguste Maridat. She had been ill for several days
past, but no alarming symptoms were apparent, and her death was unexpected. Deceased
was 48 years of age and her life had been one of self-sacrifice and devotion so her
aged mother, who still survives her, and to her only son Mr. Charles Maridat, to whom
goes the sympathies of the community. The funeral of deceased, at the Catholic church,
on Wednesday morning, was largely attended, testifying to the high esteem entertained
for this noble woman.
