Obituary: source: New Iberia Enterprise and Independent Observer. (New Iberia, La.) 1902-1944, May 08, 1920, Image 4 DANIEL P. MARKHAM. The sudden and unexpected death in this City on Sunday evening at eight o'clock of Mr. Daniel P. Markham was a shock to his many friends throughout the Parish. Mr. Markham was suddenly stricken with heart failure and succumbed before medical assistance could be procured. Deceased was born in Elimra, New York, sixty-six years ago. He was a man of unimpeached character and high educational attainments. He was well versed in political economy and most of the live questions confronting the American people. He leaves to mourn him three daughters, Mrs. Emile Verret, Mrs. C. L. Gonzales, Mrs. A. J. Naquin and three sons, Messrs. Dennis P. Markham of New Orleans; P. J. Markham of Cade and James L. Markham of this City. The funeral was conducted from St. Peter's Catholic church in this City on Monday 3d at five o'clock P. M. ***************************************************************************** 2nd. Obituary: source: The Weekly Iberian. (New Iberia, La.) 1894-1946, May 08, 1920, Image 5 Daniel P. Markham. Mr. Daniel P. Markham was born in Elmira, New York, sixty six years ago, coming to Louisiana at the age of 27, where he settled in St. Mary Parish. In 1879 he married Miss Celina Dugas, a native of the Second Ward of Iberia parish. Mr. Markham raised his family in St. Mary, coming to Iberia in 1912. For the past year and a half he has been employed as night watchman at Morbihan, having a record of 401 nights without intermission. In apparent good health, he was about his work until three days prior to his death, which came suddenly at 8 P. M. Sunday. The funeral services were conducted from St. Peter's Church on Monday at 3 P. M., and were attended by a large number of friends and relatives of this sterling old gentleman. Mrs. Markham preceded her husband to the grave in 1901. The entire family of children survive, namely, Mrs. Camille Gonzales, of New Iberia, Mrs. A. J. Naquin and Mrs. J. E. Verret, of Morbihan, Mr. D. P. Markham, Jr., of New Orleans, Mr. Patric J. Markham, of Cade, and Mr. James L. Markham, of New Iberia.
