A pall of sadness was cast over this community last Sunday when the almost sudden and unexpected death of Frank Mestayer became known. Intimately known by every resident of Iberia Parish, Frank had obtained to himself the love and esteem of the entire population, and his demise came as a personal bereavement to every one. The only issue of the marriage of Dr. J, G. Mestayer and Aglae Hebert, Frank first saw the light of day in New Iberia, April 8th, 1863, and his early education was obtained at the Holy Cross College, a flourishing institution at that time maintained in this town. He later attended Spring Hill College from which he graduated in 1882 and returned to New Iberia to assume charge of his father's pharmacy. This business he successfully conducted after his father's death until about twenty years ago he retired to accept the post of Tax Collector under Sheriff C. T. Cade and served in such capacity, under succeeding administrations, until the day of his death. Always affable, kind and helpful, Jack, as he was familiarly known to all, endeared himself to every [atron of the office; and many were the silent tears which mingled with those of the bereaved mother over his bier. But above all his good traits was one which shown resplendent, his absolute and unselfish devotion to that mother who was his all. For her, no effort was too arduous, no sacrifice too great. His great filial love saw in her all that was good and saintly and he revered and treated her as were her deserts. Mr. Nestayer was never married; but his aged mother, numerous relatives and a host of friends remain to mourn him. His funeral from the Catholic church was one of the largest ever witnessed in this City. The active pall bearers being Messrs. Octave Renoudet, Jas. Marin, Sr., R. F. Delahoussaye, A. G. Barrow, L. B. Delahoussaye and M. W. Fisher, the members of the Elks, Woodmen of the World and Societe de Bienfaisance, of which he was a member, acting as honorary pall bearers. IN MEMORIAM. On the Fifteenth day of November, 1914, Frank J. Mestayer departed this life. While engaged in the full activities of life, with all to make life worth living for, he obeyed, with cheerful resignation, the call of the Almighty, whose creatures and works he loved so much. As a brother of this Order he has ever been loyal and ready to do his duty towards his Lodge and his fellow Elks, and his name is a mark of respect and esteem for them all. A kind and dutiful son a true and tried friend, an honest, zealous and faithful worker for the public in his official capacity - he was one of the most beloved and respected citizens with which any community has ever been blessed. He did his share in life's work and none can say but that he made the world better for having lived in it. His demise is deeply regretted and sincerely felt by his Brothers of the B. P. O. E. Lodge No. 554 of New Iberia, and as a mark of love, esteem and respect entertained for him. Be it Resolved, That his name be inscribed upon the Tablet of this Lodge, and that a page in the Minute Book be dedicated to his memory. Be it also Resolved, That a copy of these resolutions be forwarded to his bereaved mother and likewise to the press. A. A. DAUTERIVE, I. W.
