MONK. - On Monday, April 14th at 4:30 P. M., Grim Reaper claimed the earthly remains of our worthy citizen Mr. John Thomas Monk. Deceased had been a sufferer from paralysis and for seventeen months remained in bed helpless. He was a native of Deeron county, Clymonth, England and for many years followed the occupation as a seaman. Arriving in this country fe devoted his time to contracting work and designed and constructed numerous homes for residents of New Iberia. Deceased stood well in this community where he reared five sons and daughters, among them, Capt. James Monk who was one of the first young citizens of New Iberia to answer the call of his government. Besides his children he leaves a widow to mourn his demise. His remains were taken in charge by the members of Aurora Lodge F. & A. M. and the funeral was conducted from the Methodist church, Rev. Brown officiating. The members of the Knights of Pythias Lodge also escorted the remains to their last resting place.
