DIED: - At his residence, No. 244 Duperier avenue, in this city on last Sunday morning, February 15th, at one o'clock, Mr. Nicholas Muller, a native of this parish, born January 14th, 1868. The funeral took place from St. Peters Catholic Church on Monday morning at ten o'clock, largely attended by the friends and acquaintances of the family. The deceased was for many years a leading merchant of this city, and at the time of his death was the head of a large furniture business on upper Main street. Some years ago he married Miss Frotcher of New Orleans and the happy young couple erected for themselves a neat and comfortable home on Duperier avenue. Here they spent the halcyon days of their wedded life till the grim messenger summoned the queen of that home to that bourn from which no traveller returns. The blow was one of great weight to the young husband, who was left the care of rearing two sons of tender ages. The elder, at the time of the death of his father, a student at the Louisiana State University, was summoned home; but so swiftly did death ensue the first alarming symptoms of his father's brief illness, that he arrived too late to see his father again in life. Mr. Muller was upon the street on Friday afternoon. Mr. Muller was a member of the New Iberia Lodge, No. 554, B. P. O. Elks, and large numbers of the members of this order followed his lifeless remains to their last resting place on earth. source: New Iberia Enterprise and Independent Observer. Born, January 14th, 1868, on his father's plantation near Belle Place, the decedent first attended the public schools and later entered St. Charles College, Grand Coteau, from which noted institute he was graduated. Returning from College he engaged with his father in farming and upon the death of the latter which occurred a few years later, he assumed charge of the families interests and for several years conducted the business in a most successful manner. Later, he accepted an important and responsible position with the late Richard Frotcher, in New Orleans where he resided for about two year, during which he was married to Miss Emily Frotcher, daughter of his employer and friend. City life however was not to hs (sic) liking, and soon after his marriage he came with his bride, to his old home. Forming a partnershp (sic) with his brother-in-law, S. G. Harry, the firm of Harry & Muller took instant rank with the leading establishments of this section. Severing his connection with Mr. S. G. Harry, he then established the furniture business which bears his name, and in the management of which he was engaged at the time of his death; as was he also the manager of the corn shelling and feed mixing plant of Gates & Muller. Besides these, Mr. Muller was engaged in several other enterprises, notably amongst which were the State National Bank and the Tauzin cane derrick and automatic weigher, which was recently patented, and financed by him, is now about to be placed on the market. Preceeded (sic) to the grave, seven years ago, by his wife, Mr. Muller is survived by his two sons, Nicholas III, a student at the L. S. U. and Frotcher, who hereafter will reside with his aunt, Miss Mary Frotcher, in New Orleans. Besides these, two brothers and four sisters mourn his loss, these are: Capt. A. N. Muller, District Attorney of this District and Mr. Joe Muller of New Orleans and Mesdames Souathe and Joe Steckler of New Orleans; Mrs. Oscar Broussard of Breaux Bridge and Mrs. S. G. Harry of New Iberia. His funeral from St. Peter's Catholic church was attended by hundreds of sorrowing friends and was an eloquent tribute to the memory of the departed. The officers and directors of the State National Bank and the members of the local Order of Elks acting as honorary pall bearers while his brothers and brothers-in-law bore the remains to their last resting place. source: The Weekly Messenger.
