Early last Wednesday morning, death removed one of New Iberia's most loved and honored women, Mrs. Felix Patout. Coming as a young bride from Lizy-Sur- Ourcq, France, Mrs. Patout spent almost her entire life in this community. As a dutiful wife and self-sacrificing mother, she was the center of affection in her well regulated household, and as a dispenser of kind words and good deeds, she was an inspiration to all with whom she came in contact. Her funeral held from the Catholic church Thursday morning was one of the most largely attended ever witnessed in this community and bore testimony to the esteem in which she was held by all classes. She is survived by her aged husband and by four sons, Messrs. Sidney, Gaston, Henry and Frederick, all progressive citizens of this City, and two daughters, Mrs. E. S. Broussard, wife of the former District Attorney and Miss Lillian, a pupil at the Sacred Heart Convent in New Orleans. To these, we offer our heartfelt sympathies in their hour of distress. source: The Weekly Iberian. (New Iberia, La.) 1894-1946, June 21, 1913, Image 2 MRS. FELIX PATOUT Died: At the family residence, on East Main street, in this city, June 18th, 1913, Mrs. Felix Patout, nee Claire Tate, born January 6th, 1854, in Lizy- Sur-Oureq, France. As death drew nearer, there gather at her bedside her "girls" and "boys" - always girls and boys to her, though now grown to mature years - her disconsolate husband, many distressed kinfolks, and close friends whose love ties were of but little less force than those of consanguinity. On Wednesday morning at 5:15 o'clock, just in the dawning of the life of a new day - just as the birds were awakening to song - just as the rosy shafts of light from the orb of day tinted the eastern sky with a sheen of glory - a most fitting time for a pure spirit to take its flight heavenward - her earthly life came to its close. With the announcement, that the end had come, a pall of grief settled over the minds and hearts of those who loved her so dearly, shutting out the glory of a perfect day, and rivaling the darkness of Egypt's blackness night. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a constant friend, a consistent Christian. Her soul was an inexhaustible fountain of kindness and gentleness. She ever sought the flowers in the garden of life and dwelt not upon the thorns. She recognized the good in everyone - prefering to know no ill of anyone. None ever entered her home without a warm welcome, nor left without feeling the warmth of a genuine and matchless hospitality, characteristic of her whole life. She was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church and of St. Peters Ladies' Altar Society. The last sad rites to her memory were performed in the sacred edifice, attended by an out pouring of the people, in all walks of life, a testimony of the high esteem in which this noble woman was held by the entire community. She was the light of the eyes of a great company of relatives and friends, and the light has now gone out. She will be sorely missed. To them she was what the sunshine is to the world, and this eclipse to them brings both darkness and chill. May time bring its resignation, and may the shores of eternity that receives her soul, surround it with the everlasting sunshine of perfect love and the choicest flowers of never ending peace and joy. "There is no death! The stars go down To rise upon some fairer shores; And bright in Heaven's jeweled crown They shine forever more."
