M., Mr. L. A. Pellerin yielded to the Great Conquerer of all things earthly, and passed into the Great Beyond. Mr. Pellerin was eighty five years old, and up to very recently was still quite active. He enlisted at the outbreak of the Civil War, and served four years in the 3rd La. Regiment. It was during the first year of the war that he obtained a furlough and came home to get married. His cheerful disposition, and industrious nature, had won a large circle of friends who sincerely mourn his loss. He was married in 1861, in St. Martinville, but came to this city a few years afterward, and on last may 30th he and his wife celebrated their 60th Anniversary with a happy reunion of all their descendants. Mrs. Pellerin died in July of last year, at the age of 78 years. Eight children of this splendid old couple are living being, Mrs. Leonce Pellerin of St. Martinville, Mrs. J. G. Arnandez of New Iberia, Mrs. T. O. Darby of Sour Lake, Texas, Mrs. R. F. Bonvillain of Many, La., Mrs. A. Miller of Dallas, Texas, and Messrs. Joe Pellerin of Dallas, Texas, George Pellerin of Ranger, Texas, and Louis Pellerin of Dallas. For many years he was Deputy Clerk of Court, and for 16 years Tax Collector under Sheriffs Barnard and Cade; he also was Parish Jailor for a time. He then became a Notary Public. He had, up till last season, an unbroken record of 25 years as cane weigher at Shadyside Plantation, and it was a severe blow to his energetic nature when infirmities of old age forced him to give up that position last October. Besides his children above named, those from away who attended the funeral were: Misses Elmire and Vivian Pellerin of St. Martinville; Mrs. C. Delahoussaye and children and Mrs. Reese of Breaux Bridge; Mr. Jack Delahoussaye and Mr. Trappe of Jeanerette; Mr. Clayton Pellerin and Miss Nina Pellerin of Lafayette, and Mr. and Mrs. D. Pellerin of St. Martinville. The funeral took place from St. Peter's Catholic Church Monday at 4:30 P. M., and interment was in the Catholic Cemetery.
