He passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 22, 2016, in New Iberia with his family at his side. Mr. Pete was retired as a captain with the New Iberia Fire Department after 28 years of service. Upon his retirement he enrolled full time at UL, receiving his Bachelor’s Degree in General Studies, and did freelance journalism for short while. Outside of his work and studies, Roy enjoyed traveling the United States with his favorite destination being New York City. But what brought him the most joy was just being with family and friends. He enjoyed a good laugh and had the “joie de vivre” about him. He will be missed dearly. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lucy Bourque Pete; his children, Gregory M. Pete and wife Joleen, and Suzette P. Romero and husband Stoney, all of New Iberia; his grandchildren, Trent Romero and wife Heidi, Stormy Romero, Spencer Pete and wife Lani, Emily Pete, Christopher Peter, Leah Girard, Phillip Girard and Peyton Sellers; 12 great grandchildren; and his brothers, Raymond Pete and wife Ann of Loreauville and Billy Pete and wife Sylvia of New Iberia. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Dave Christopher Pete; his in-laws, Leonice and Idolie Romero Bourque; and a brother, Jimmy Pete. Evangeline Funeral Home of New Iberia, 364-1881, is in charge of arrangements.
