(New Iberia, La.) 1902-1944, May 13, 1905, Image 6 A most distressing accident occurred yesterday afternoon in front of the old saw mill at the Bayou where a lot of boys were bathing, young Adam Plattsmier, son of Mr. Charles Plattsmier was also bathing. In some way he got beyond his depth, and not being a swimmer, he went under, coming up twice, no help was offered him, the boys seemed to be paralysed with surprise and fright and before they recovered it was too late and the boy sank to rise no more. After a long hunt the body was at last raised by Mr. E. F. Millard, who caught it with a hook and line. All attempts at resuscitation failed as the body had been under water more than an hour before it was found. Coroner Sauders viewed the body and gave opinion in accordance with the above facts. Young Plattsmier was about 14 years old and had been in the employ of Mr. Millard as a newsboy, he was bright and intelligent and and (sic) his loss is irreparable to his parents.
