A new light was thrown upon the very mysterious case here this morning, by the finding of the body of J. P. Robertson, floating in the Vermilion river. The coroner, Dr. Edwards, held the inquest, but the jury failed to find any evidences of foul play, and rendered their verdict accordingly. Robertson came to this parish about one year ago from Houma, La., and located on a rice farm about seven miles west of this place. He was accredited with being a very successful man and farmer, having made a large crop this year and is suppose to have a large bank account to his credit besides. He came to town last Thursday, the 21 inst., left his horse and buggy in front of one of the prominent business house, and attended the circus which was playing here that night. It was noticed that he was under the influence of liquor slightly, and that he left the tents before the conclusion of the performance. He was not seen afterwards till his body was found floating in the river. foul play is suspected but there are no clues. He is about 50 years of age, single, and has brothers living in Franklin, La. His remains were taken in charge by a brother, who came here to search for him, upon being notified of his disappearance, and they were taken to Franklin for burial.
