Romero, scion of one of the oldest and most prominent families of this section, succumbed to a long siege of illness, which he had borne with the courage and fortitude which had marked his every undertaking during his useful career. The youngest of eleven children of Mr. and Mrs. J. Devezin Romero, the decedent was born on his father's plantation in this Parish and lived there with his mother until a few years ago when he married Miss Eulalie Landry and removed to Segura, to engage in the mercantile business. This he conducted most successfully and soon extended his energies to include farming and was regarded as a leader in this line. Always pleasant and affable he was universally liked and his untimely death brought sadness to a multitude brought sadness to a multitude of friends. A devoted husband, a loving father, a dutiful son, an affectionate brother and progressive citizen, Michel Romero will long be remembered by all who knew him. Besides his heartbroken wife and young child, his aged mother, his brothers, O. P., Honora, A. B., O. D., and his sisters Mesdames P. C. Derouen, H. Patout, S. Pointis, S. Perodin and S. O. Nuckolls survive him. To these we extend our heartfelt sympathies. Mr. Romero was an active member of the Elk Lodge of this City and a large number of the membership were present at the funeral obsequies which took place at St. Peter's Catholic church on Thursday morning. source: New Iberia Enterprise and Independent Observer. (New Iberia, La.) 1902-1944, December 06, 1913, Image 7 IN MEMORIAM. In obedience to the laws of nature and the will of an Omnipresent and Omnipotent God, our friend and fellow worker, Michel C. Romero, was on the twenty-sixth day of November called from the walks of man to meet his reward in a better and brighter world. While our grief is deeply felt, we know that ours cannot equal that of the bereaved family, and may the blessings of our Heavenly Father attend them. During the many years that he was with us, he always proved himself to be a kind friend, an ardent worker, and a sympathetic brother and as such we respected and esteemed him. Therefore be it Resolved, That we, the members of Iberia Lodge No. 554, B. P. O. E., sympathize deeply with the family of our deceased brother and tender to them our heartfelt wishes, that they may be given the fortitude to bear nobly their loss. And be it further Resolved, That a copy of these resolutions be spread upon our minutes, and sent to the Editors of the local papers for publication. L. A. Walet, R. D. Southwell, W. E.
