Creamer marykcreamer@yahoo.com February 9, 2017, 2:20 pm Evangeline Funeral Home 314 E Saint Peter St., New Iberia, LA 70560 NEW IBERIA – Dorothy Bordelon Schales, 79, of New Iberia, LA passed away on Saturday, January 7, 2017. She was born on June 1, 1937 in Big Cane, Louisiana to the late Richard and Eva Bordelon, the fourth of six children. After graduating from Morrow High School, she attended Southwestern Louisiana Institute (ULL) where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education. Dorothy was an Elementary School Teacher with a career that spanned over 30 years, and she greatly enjoyed teaching her many students. She also enjoyed singing, playing the dulcimer and visiting friends. In her spare time, she volunteered her services at nursing homes and hospitals. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of twenty-six years, DeWayne Olen Schales; parents, Richard and Eva Wallace Bordelon; and two brothers, Donnie Bordelon and Chester Bordelon. Dorothy is survived Dave Prince of Lydia; her children, Richard (Juliette) Schales of New Iberia, Scott (Messina) Schales of New Iberia, Laura (John) McNeel of Vilonia, AR, Alan (Rhonda) Schales of Cave City, AR; her grandchildren, Cedric, Bruce, Chelsie, Colleen and Haley Schales, Taylor and Mathew McNeel; her sister, Jeanell McDowell of Jena, LA; her brothers, Wilery Bordelon of Baton Rouge, LA and Vester Bordelon of Morrow, LA; along with numerous nieces and nephews who she dearly loved. A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home of New Iberia on Friday from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Visiting hours on Saturday will be held at Hopewell Baptist Church, 249 Hopewell Church Road, DeRidder, LA 70634 from 1:00 pm until time of services at 2:00 pm. Pastor John Doyle will officiate. Mrs. Schales will be laid to rest alongside her husband at the Hopewell Baptist Cemetery immediately following services. Serving as pallbearers will be Alan, Richard, Scott, Bruce, and Cedric Schales, and John, and Mathew McNeel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dorothy's name to your local . The family would like to give special thanks to Dave Prince and the entire Prince Family, Hannah Prince, Ashely Fontenot, the staff at Maison du Monde Nursing Home, and Hospice of Acadiana for their care and support.
