Bayou L'Ours, La., Feb. 25. - Mrs. Christina Schwing, aged ninety-nine years and eight months, died at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Amelia D. Eells, in Bayou L'Ours LA.. Feb. 15th. Jacob Anselm, a native of Alsace, then a part of France, but of German blood, tired of the wars which disturbed that country and in which his family had taken an active part under Napoleon Bonaparte, sold his considerable possessions and started for Harvre on his way to America. After purchasing at enormous cost, tickets for his large family, he missed the vessel and remained there six months waiting for another ship. At last buying new passage, he started in a sailing vessel on the long voyage from Havre to New Orleans. Stormy weather and adverse winds detained them five months on the voyage, during which Mrs. Anselm and half the children died and were buried at sea. Mr. Anselm reached New Orleans in 1815 shortly after the battle of New Orleans with three sons and two daughters, of whom little Christina was less than three years old. In early womanhood, she met and married George Schwing, a native of Virginia, reared in Louisville, Ky., of which city his father was one of the founders. From their marriage, twelve children were born, two dying in infancy, and ten growing up and marrying, all whom have families surviving. They are: George B. Schwing, dead, whose widow and family reside in New Iberia, La. Mrs. Mary Ann Patout, dead, whose children and children's children to the fourth generation, dwell at Patoutville, La., and in Texas, New Mexico and Nebraska. William F. Schwing of Lake Charles, La. Dr. S. D. Schwing, dead, whose widow and children reside at Plaquemine, Iberville Parish, La. S. C. Schwing, dead, whose family and widow dwell at Jackson, La., New Orleans, Plaucheville, La., and Birmingham, Ala. John T. Schwing, dead, whose family resides at Charenton, La. Mrs. Amelia D. Eells, wife of D. B. Eels of Bayou L'Ours. Benjamin K. Schwing of New Orleans and Gramercy. Joseph K. Schwing, of Bayou Boeuf. Mrs. Christina A. Schmidt, of New Orleans. Mrs. Christina Schwing left 115 surviving descendants to the fifth generation making 157 living members of the family. George Schwing died in 1870 at an advanced age and his body is in Plaquemine, La. After his death, Mrs. Schwing dwelt for some years with her aged sister in Plaquemine, then with held (sic) eldest daughter, Mrs. Patout for many years. The last few years of her life she lived at Bayou L'Ours with her daughter, Mrs. Amelia Eells. Her large family was reared on Bayou Boeuf, where Mr. Schwing was a sugar planter until 1857, when he moved to Grosse Tete and opened a new place, there losing all and suffering untold hardships during the War while his sons were in the army. Surrounded at her deathbed by all her surviving children, some of her children's children, after bidding them bood-bye (sic), her last words were: "I am happy." Her body lies by the side of her eldest daughter in the Patout family vault at Patoutville.
