Williams, born Jan'y 9th 1855. The funeral took place from the First Methodist Episcopal Church South, Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Mrs. Shadel's life has been a blessing to all who were fortunate as to have known her as a friend. Her greatness of soul and heart made her the true mother spirit - ever kind, loving and generous; never unkind in speech, deed or thought. She was one of those grand women, whose life has been an exemplification of the Christian doctrine - a devoted wife, a true friend, a constant and devout member of the Methodist Church, a generous spirit, a noble woman,. In her death a home has been robbed of all that made it home, and her life partner has been left bereaved indeed. To him an appreciative community gives its tenderest sympathy. source: New Iberia Enterprise and Independent Observer. (New Iberia, La.) 1902-1944, August 26, 1905, Image 5 MRS. H. H. SHADEL. The death of this most estimable lady occurred at her home on Washington street, last Wednesday. She had been afflicted for a long period, but bore it all with that Christian fortitude and patience, which was so characteristic of this good woman. The funeral service was held at the M.E. Church, Rev. A. W. Turner officiating. The body was encased in a beautiful white casket, almost hidden by the myriad of flowers sent by devoted friends. The pall bearers were Messrs. S. A. Benthall, Leon Bagarry, John Perry, Fred W. Bauman, M. LeBrun, X. Herpeche, all Knights of Temperance of which order Mr. H. H. Shadel was the founder and charter member. Mrs. Shadel was Miss M. A. Williams and had ever been a most faithful worker in the M. E. Church of which she was a member for 25 years and during all that time gave the best of her time and talents to the cause of her church and all those in need or trouble in her community. To her efforts in a large measure was lifted the debt which hung over the M. E. Church for so long, now happily extinguished. In all charitable works of every description she was always foremost, her loss has been and will long be felt. The commodious church was filled to overflowing with sorrowing friends, who came to pay their last respects and follow her loved remains to the cemetery. To the sorrowing husband, our friends and fellow citizen, we extend our heartfelt sympathy and condolence.
