(New Iberia, La.) 1885-1902, April 18, 1885, Image 2 A Sad Bereavement. - It is with feelings of deep regret that we learned this week the sad tidings of the death by drowning of two of the younger brothers of our esteemed fellow citizens, Messrs. Frank and Sam Shinn, the former engineer of the saw mill of Messrs. Broussard & Decuir. The two brothers, E. W. and Amos Shinn, were asleep on the steamer J. R. Jolley, in Bayou Jessie, when she suddenly sprang a leak and went down. Mr. E. W. Shinn came out and saw the danger, and returned to warn his brother Amos, but both were overwhelmed by the waters before they could get out. How true that, "in life we are in the midst of death."
