An Abbeville Special to the Picayune, Jun 8th, says: "Hon. Robert C. Smedes, District Attorney for the 25th Judicial District, died at 5 a. m. to-day after a very brief illness. Thus has passed away in the very prime of life on of the most popular and leading citizens of this parish. His untimely death is universally regretted." This intelligence will bring sorrow to many a heart in Lafayette parish, where "Bob" as he liked to be called by his friends, was also deservedly popular. His was a peculiarly frank and generous nature, and his heart always went with his hand. He will be sadly missed, and "take him all in all, his like we shall seldom see again." Vale! Kind heart; your memory shall long be kept green in our souls.
