Alva L. Spears

Funeral services for Mrs. Richard E. Spears, 63, the former Alva Lamperez, 
will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Peter's Catholic Church with the Rev. 
Gary Schexnayder officiating. Entombment will be in the Holy Family 
Mausoleum.

Visitation will be today from 4-8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. rosary at Evangeline 
Funeral Home, which will reopen Wednesday from noon until the time of 
services.

A native of New Iberia and resident of Lafayette, Mrs. Spears died at 11:36 
a.m. Monday, April 7, 2003, at Lafayette General Medical Center.

Mrs. Spears was a 1958 graduate of Mt. Carmel and was a member of the 1958 
All State Champion Basketball team. She attended and graduated from the 
University of Southwestern Louisiana and was a former teacher at Pesson 
Elementary. She was also a longtime supporter of the Carmelite Monastery in 
Lafayette.

She is survived by her husband, Richard E. Spears of Lafayette; her son, 
Richard A. Spears and his wife, Anne West Spears, of New Iberia; her 
daughter, Therese Lamperez Spears of New Iberia; four grandchildren, Justin, 
Matthew, Benjamin and Katherine Spears; and her brother, Dr. Edmond Lamperez 
of New Iberia.

Mrs. Spears was preceded in death by her parents, Allen and Alva Landry 
Lamperez.

Pallbearers will be John, Michael and Edmond Lamperez Jr., John, Edmond and 
Jules Anthony Schwing, and L. Albert Forrest.

The family prefers memorials be made to the Carmelite Monastery, 1250 Carmel 
Drive, Lafayette, La. 70506.

Evangeline Funeral Home of New Iberia is in charge of arrangements.
