(New Iberia, La.) 1894-1946, February 28, 1903, Image 3 Accidentally Killed. Last Saturday two young boys of this place, George Stansbury, aged 16 years, and his brother, J. H. Stansbury, aged 14 years, went out hunting with an old muzzle loading shotgun, one of the locks of which was not in good repair and considerable care needed to be exercised in pulling the hammer back, in order to get it to "Stand." During the course of the hunt some partridges were flushed and the boys started out after them, the younger one walked in front and the elder coming on behind with the guns in his hands, holding it with the muzzle down. A bird soon flew up and George, in attempting to shoot, pulled the hammer back, forgot to use care, and the hammer fell, exploded the charge prematurely and the load of shot lodged in the shoulders and neck of his brother, who was a short distance ahead of him, inflicting wounds which resulted in his death a few hours afterwards. Judge Robt. Brown held an inquest on the body Sunday evening and gave a certificate of death in accordance with the facts.
