(New Iberia, La.) 1902-1944, February 28, 1920, Page 4, Image 4 JOE TERRELL KILLED. - On Monday last a cablegram reached New Iberia to the effect that Mr. Joe Terrell, a young son of Mrs. P. Terrell had died from internal injuries received through the explosion of a boiler in a sugar factory at Preston, Cuba, where he had only a few months ago accepted employment. Full particulars of his death has not reach his parents as yet, though the message stated that he had lingered seven hours after the fatal accident that cost him his life. The tragic news cast a gloom of sadness over the people of this community. Joe was an exemplary young gentleman and one and all expressed deep grief over the misfortune that befell the young man. From what we could ascertain, the remains will be embalmed and brought to Mississippi City, Miss. to be intered (sic) in the family vault. He leaves a heart-broken mother and several brothers and sisters to mourn him. Among them are Mr. James Terrell, New Orleans; Eddie Terrell, Avery Island; Steve of this City, Mrs. M. S. Pittman of Oregon; Misses Molly, Katie and Sue of New Iberia. (New Iberia, La.) 1902-1944, March 06, 1920, Page 5, Image 5 NECROLOGY. - On Friday afternoon the remains of Mr. Joseph Terrell arrived in New Iberia for interment. The funeral ceremonies were conducted at St. Peter's Catholic church in the presence of a multitude of sympathetic relatives and friends. Mr. Terrell, as was reported in the last number of The Enterprise was accidentally killed while engaged at a large sugar mill at Preston, Cuba on Monday, February 27th. His earthly remains were taken in charge by the Catholic Knights and Woodmen of the World organizations of this City. source: The Weekly Iberian. (New Iberia, La.) 1894-1946, March 06, 1920, Image 5 JOSEPH FRANCIS TERRELL. - On February 24th, in Preston, Cuba, there occured a fatal accident which resulted in the death of one of New Iberia's most promising young men. Joseph F. Terrell was born in February, 1891, and the date of his death was but three days before his twenty-ninth birthday. Joe was always a well-liked, friendly boy and had developed into a young man of much promise, holding a very important position with the United Fruit Company, at Preston, Cuba. Had not this accident takea (sic) him away his countless friends here expected to see him make a high mark in the world. The body arrived from Cuba on Friday, March 5th, for interment in the Catholic Cemetery. The funeral services, held from St. Peter's Church, were attended by a large number of friends and relatives, and by the Knights of Columbus and Woodmen of the World, of which orders he was a loyal member.
