After only a few weeks illness, Hon. Andrew Thorpe, a resident of New Iberia for about fifteen years passed to the great Beyond on Monday morning last at 8:40 o'clock, at his home on Washington Avenue. Few in New Iberia were aware that the distinguished gentleman was confined to his room with an attack of pneumonia before it was reported that he had breathed his last, which came as a shock to his large circle of friends who was endeared to him since a resident of this City and as a practitioner at the bar. Deceased came to New Iberia from Alexandria where he had resided for a number of years, coming to this State from Kentucky where he was born. He was aged respectively 68 years, and leaves to mourn his loss besides his widow, a step-daughter and grand-child. The funeral services were held at his late residence in the presence of a large number of sympathizing friends, the interrment being held at Rose Hill Cemetery on Tuesday morning. His widow has the deep sympathy of the entire community in the hour of her grief. source: The Weekly Iberian. (New Iberia, La.) 1894-1946, January 06, 1912, Image 2 NECROLOGICAL. Hon. Andrew Thorpe, aged 68 years, native of Kentucky, died at his residence in this city Monday. The funeral was conducted at the residence by the Rev. K. W. Dodson of the Methodist Episcopal Church and the interment was at Rose Hill Cemetery. He leaves a widow and daughter. Mr. Thorpe was a prominent lawer (sic) of this city, coming here from Alexandria about fifteen years ago. He established a large practice; was employed as attorney on several boards and societies; was counsel for the Iberia Parish School Board, and was regarded as a progressive citizen.
