M., one of New Iberia's most promising and best loved young men succumbed to the Grim Reaper, Death, and with his passing a gloom overspread the entire city. Laurent Tilly was born in St. Martinville on August 1, 1888, in which city he spent his early boyhood, completing the public school course and graduating from the high school. He then attended the State University, from which institution he graduated with high honors, receiving a B. S. degree. He was one of the state's best educators, having served as principle in Baton Rouge, Thibodeau, and for 5 years in Jeanerette. He received a diploma in law, and was admitted to practice of law which he followed for short time, leaving this to accept the position as superintendent of Schools of Iberia Parish scarcely a year ago. This position he has filled with great satisfaction to the public and to the benefit of the cause of education in Iberia parish. He was a faithful member of the Catholic Church, and held a prominent office in the local lodge of Knights of Columbus. He was the Lecturer of the K. of C. Lodge of New Iberia of which he was a Fourth Degree Knight, and a member of the W. O. W. of Jeanerette. Several years ago he married Miss Emily Greig, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Greig of this city, who, with four children survive him. Besides his own family he leaves four brothers, Dr. W. P. Tilly and Dr. Henry Tilly of New Orleans, Linax Tilly and Emile Tilly; three sisters, Nita, wife of Achille Tullier, Yvonne, wife of Edward Hale and Miss Yolande Tilly. Many Floral Offerings were sent by relatives and friends and by teachers and pupils of the New Iberia High School and the graded schools of New Iberia, and the parish schools and the School Board. The active Pall Bearears were Dr. W. P. Tilly, Dr. Henry Tilly and Linax Tilly, his three brothers, and F. E. Delahoussaye, William Greig and Frank Greig his Brothers-in-law. The Honorary Pall Bearers were Hon. W. J. Burke, H. R. Minvielle, member School Board, L. G. Porter, Asst. Supt., Dr. E. S. Fulton, Council W. O. W., C. O. Mouton of Lafayette, State Representative of the K. of C., and Flor Guenie, Ex-mayor of Jeanerette. The funeral which was conducted from St. Peter's Catholic Church, was attended by a vast throng of admirers of this sterling man who had numbered his friends by thousands.
