WALET. - The unexpected death last Tuesday at New Orleans of Hon. John D. Walet cast a gloom over the entire Parish. Mr. Walet only a couple of days before, while at his home at Loreauville was taken suddenly ill with Appendicitis and in company with members of his family went to New Orleans to undergo an operation. A few hours after he succumbed. The remains were brought to his home at Loreauville for interment. At five o'clock on Wednesday afternoon at the Catholic church in charge of Rev. Solignac was filled to overflowing with grief-stricken friends and relatives who had assembled there to pay their last respects to the deceased. Mr. Walet was one of Loreauville's most enterprising citizens. He was engaged in merchandising and planting and was considered one of the most progressive citizens in Iberia Parish. Deceased always took the lead in movements calculated to benefit the farmers in his section. In fact his opinion and advice was much sought after by his acquaintances who appreciated his knowledge of farming and other business pursuits. Deceased was a member of the Elks Order of this City, the members of whom attended the funeral in a body. He leaves to mourn his demise a widow, nee Lydia Gonsoulin, three sons, Charles, Joseph and Louis, besides his aged father John D. Walet, Sr. and several brothers and sisters, Messrs. Pleney, Junius, Louis and Perry Walet and Mesdames George M. Germany, Gustave Bonin and Mrs. (Dr.) F. O. Darby all of Loreauville. The friends of the family in New Iberia deeply sympathize with the family in this their hour of sorrow and grief.
