DIED. - On Sunday the wire brought the news of the death of Mr. Joseph Weill, who died that day at Beaumont after a brief illness. He was buried at Beaumont. Joe Weill came to New Iberia in 1901 from New Orleans and opened a store at the corner of Main and Iberia streets in the old Clerc building under the firm name of the Tulane Co., he holding the position of Secretary Treasurer. The office stationary of the firm indicated that "M. Weil" was the president of the firm. From the first the store was designated as "Noah's Ark" - probably because it was confined to no one line, but handled "everything". During the history of the firm here it occupied two other stands be sides its first location, the Davis building, next below Taylor's drug store, and lastly, in the lower-side store of the new Masonic Temple, where the business remained till the summer pf 1912. After the closing of the business here "Joe" went to Shreveport. Recently he went to Beaumont. Broken in health, business and possibly in spirit, he was not equal to the ordeal of rehabilitating his lost fortune. His funeral was directed by the Masons of Beaumont. He was a life member of the lodge there.
