(New Iberia, La.) 1902-1944, April 05, 1919, Image 4 The unexpected death of the venerable Mr. Clermont Young which occurred at his home on Iberia street last Friday, March 28th at four o'clock P. M. was a severe shock to his devoted wife and children. At the time of his demise he was apparently enjoying the best of health, in fact only a few minutes before he expired there was no symptoms that his life was so near its end. Mr. Young born was born (sic) in Vermilion parish on May 27th, 1837, and was a son of the late Nicholas Young also of that parish. Upon reaching manhood he removed to Iberia where he resided and reared a large family of honored sons and daughters. Deceased filled many responsible and trustworthy positions of honor in this Parish, having served our people in the halls of the State Legislature during the seventies. In the year 1878 he was overwhelmingly elected Sheriff of the Parish which position he filled for several years. Some time later he became the Mayor of New Iberia after which he retired to private life and lived unostentatiously (sic) thereafter. Besides his widow, nee Clara Gall, he leaves to mourn him Messrs. Clermont G. and Amelias N. of Franklin; Clegg Young of Fort Smith, Ark.; F. Tillou Young of Cleveland, Ohio; Frederick Young of this City, and MesdamesH. E. Segrist, Lake Charles; John Bass, Lake Arthur; A. N. Limbacker, Lake Charles and Robert Mestayer of this City. The funeral was conducted from the Methodist church. Rev. Brown officiating in the presence of a large number of citizens on Saturday, March 29th at 4 o'clock P. M.
