Christov. De Armas takes cognizance of the petition which is in conformity with the law. Date: December 23, 1795 Baron de Carondelet declares that the Temporary Commandant, Dn Pedro Voisin has authority in this place, as to the terms solicited for the repair of the levee of the lands of Dn Estevan Watts. Date: December 29, 1795 Order of the Governor General, Cristov de Armas, to have repair of levee of lands of Estevan Watts, 1/4th of which belongs to Pedro Belly, and contract to be left at public auction; petition having been made by Dn. Pedro Belly. Date: January 17, 1796 By above order, Notice of Public Sale. For a levee of about one hundred feet in lenght and of sixteen of width, on seven feet of crest, surrounded outside by upright posts, protected from the waves by thick planks or faggots, filled in the trough of the land, at five feet from the first post of the said levee, there should be another range of upright posts, at like distance another now sunken at three feet and the whole filled and covered with earth; the same levee imprisoned by the two ends and made near the border in this moment at twelve inches higher than the level of the road. A ditch at twelve feet of distance and the length of this levee, another ditch in depth to hold the above said levee dry with a bridge according to the ordinance on this ditch and in the road; to support the other ditches which a refound on the land in question, observing that the brambles and the fallen wood by the workers might obstruct the course of the waters; all the said work to be done immediately and without relaxation on the portion of land belonging to Mr. Etienne Watts, situated in this District, on the right bank of the Mississippi river, adjacent above to that of Mr. Phillipe Roth and below to the plantation of Mr. Pierre Belly; for which work, the adjudicated will be paid half in one year, ** Work contract adjudicated to Phillippe Roth. (Attached to above evidently, is following:) Date: January 11, 1796 Peition to make road and repair levee because the waters are rising, by land of Pierre Belly, being above land belonging to Etienne Watts, petition being to Comdt. Date: Januray 11, 1796 At request of Pierre Belly, Comdt. Pierre Voisin, goes to plantation of Etienne Watts and on the portion not sold situated at the boundary of Pierre Belly below and above by the portion which had been adjudicated to him and being at four leagues from Comdts. residence, the Comdt. called men to discuss the matter of making levee to protect land from water. Date: Feb. 15, 1796 Affidavit of Joseph and Ignace Amelton that the work as suffidently executed. Date: April 21, 1796 Declaration by Manuel Gayoso de Limos, that he approves that the 4th of said plantation of Watts situated between that which is sold and the land of Pierre Belly the adjudicated to Philip Roth, for the remainder coming to him from contract of levee, and that Watts has given him authority to transfer same, and he asks Pierre Belly to perform the adjudication; Pierre Belly, being Temporary Commandant. (Instrument dated April 22, 1796 all torn off and eaten away, only date on margin remaining) Date: April 22, 1796 Receipt - Phillippe Roth to Commandant, for receipt of sum and at the acquittance of Mr. Etienne Watts, for work adjudicated on date of January 17th past, and which has been paid to-wit: $170 for amount of land which Comdt. Pierre Belly, has sold him on 2nd of this month, and that which Comdt. has also sold him this day for & in name of Mr. Watts. Date: June 9, 1796 Declaration of P. Belly that, on date of May 30, the Governor General demanded of him to make an adjudication of 1/4th of land of Dn Estevan Eatts to Phelipe Roth for money due the latter for work on the levee.
