To His Excellency, of Grand Pre, Lieutenant General of the Armies of the King and Governor of Baton Rouge: They request to call Mr. Jes Oubre in order that he might appear at the opening of the Court which will take place on the 13th of the current month in order to terminate a suit existing between him and us, relative to the money coming from the sale of the plantation passed in favor of Mister Dubroca. The said Mr. Jes Oubre seeks only subterfuges in order to prolong the said matter, pretending that there exists in this office of Baton Rouge, papers which assure him the ownership of the said funds, to him exclusively, as we do not know of other papers concerning this affair, except the said sale passed in favor of Mr. Dubroca and the sale copy of which is annexed, we supplicate your Excellency to give us notice if there exist other papers in favor of Mr. Jes Oubre; or if none exists, to give us an attestation by writing; in order that the said Mr. Jes Oubre cannot ask us to send back the money at the opening Court, failing to obtain any papers which do not exist. Baton Rouge Jan. 9, 1806 - On day of this date, there was delivered to Mr. Jacques Oubre legalized copy of a paper resumbling the copy hereto annexed, without the signature of the Commandant, those of the two witnesses of assistance and of the acceptation of the said Oubre, this which renders him, and renders the said paper not useful, failure of these three indispensable formalities, for its validity; reason for which there remains in there archives, as informal paper, and not inventoried.
