Anne Landry Richard At the request of Joseph Richard, have appeard: Francois Landry, Paul Mary Landry, Firmain Landry and Joseph Leblanc, all 4 residents of this District and to them joined Anselme Landry, resident of Lafourche, who have declared that Mrs. Anne Landry, wife of Joseph Richard, above said, had died on April 21, 1783 and the following year, an inventory was made of the property left and on November 3, 1788 they met with the exception of Anselme Landry and liquidated the inventory, & Richard added $300 donation to the sum of the half of which belonged to the minor children of the said Joseph Richard and Mrs. Anne Landry, his decd. wife. Joseph Richard married for the second time, issuing from this marriage a number of children, and they deliberate this day that the sum of $300 which had been given to the children of his first marriage, should not have been given to these children, with the only reason of enjoying same, but this to help to maintain them, and that for their tutor and father, in the said liquidation, nothing is required for the use of that which belonged to the minors, up to their age of majority. The donation of $300 is (torn) because from the second marriage of Joseph Richard, there were born a number of children, that which hurts them, that is why they protest this donation which should not have existed, since Joseph Richard convoked a second marriage, and they petition that these declarations be placed in archives of this District. They consider that at the time of the act of November 3, 1788, that there was a loss on paper money in the Colony, but since said paper money was withdrawn and paid at its just value, they acknowledge that the heirs of Anne Landry and Joseph Richard, woudld not be hurt as it was thought at the time, that is why they thought it just that the said heirs should have accured to them, the said $300 without the said Richard being responsible.
