He was 80, born Aug. 22, 1926. Visiting at St. Joseph Catholic Church Hall, Grosse Tete, on Sunday, Nov. 26, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visiting resumes at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Grosse Tete, on Monday, Nov. 27, from 8:30 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., celebrated by the Rev. Joseph Arogyasami. Interment in Rosedale Cemetery. He is survived by his wife of nearly 56 years, Mary Helen Reulet Angelloz of Rosedale; three daughters, Christine Angelloz and Melanie Angelloz, both of Baton Rouge, and Jennifer Angelloz Gates and husband Tim of Acworth, Ga.; three beloved grandchildren, Regan Anne, Holly Claire and Grant Rivers Gates; a brother and sister-in-law, Charles Arthur "Cha Cha" and Rita David Angelloz of Grosse Tete; numerous nieces, nephews and godchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Albert "Coon" and Mary Evelina "NaNa" Bossier Angelloz, who were of Grosse Tete; his son, Paul Reginald Angelloz, who was of Baton Rouge; his sister and brother-in-law, Mary Elizabeth Angelloz Perry and Julius Perry, who were of Grosse Tete. He volunteered for service in World War II instead of waiting to be drafted. He was a disabled U.S. Navy veteran who proudly served his country in the Pacific Theatre as a Seaman 1st Class and a Fireman 1st Class on the AM-233 USS Facility. He was disabled on April 6, 1945, when his ship was hit by a Japanese suicide bomber. His ship picked up 35 survivors from the USS Kidd. Dick Angelloz was deeply concerned about the education and welfare of all children. He proudly served as a member of the Iberville Parish School Board from 1968 to 1998 when he retired. He held the same seat that his father had held from 1924 until his death in 1968. Their combined 74 years of service represents the longest time an elected school board seat was held by the same family in Louisiana. He was proud to have served. He was also a longtime member of the board of directors of the Bank of Maringouin. His service began July 3, 1973, and continued until his death. Daddy was a lifelong farmer beginning with the family potato farm before World War II and later dairy cattle before transitioning to beef cattle farming. He raised beef cattle for more than 30 years before retiring from farming. Anyone who knew him knew of his love of hunting, fishing and gardening. He enjoyed being close to nature and working the land. He was an avid hunter, especially deer, and an expert marksman, a carryover from his days in the U.S. Navy. He frequently shared what he brought in, especially in the 1930s and 1940s, with people who did not have other meat. He viewed his garden with great pride and the vegetables it produced with great joy and was glad to share it with others. To him, it was a form of ministry. He had been blessed with so much; he wanted to share it with others. In his lifetime, Dick Angelloz was a member of the Louisiana School Board Association, the Louisiana Cattleman's Association, the National Rifle Association, the Louisiana Farm Bureau, the American Legion, the Disabled Veterans Association and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was proud to be a lifetime Charter Member of the National World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. He believed and cared very strongly that this memorial should be built. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Angelloz, J.A. Dupuy Jr., Tim Gates, Wylie B. Jewell Jr., A.B. "Happy" Perry and Phil Pevey. Honorary pallbearers are his special nephew, Virgil Allan "Tabo" Angelloz, members of the board of directors of the Bank of Maringouin, past and present, and members of the Iberville Parish School Board with whom he served. Special thanks to his dedicated, compassionate caregivers, Rose Minniefield, Tracey Lay, Dee Dee Johnson, Ebonie Jones and Darlene King. We will always treasure your kindness to our family. Thanks are extended also to Bryan's Pharmacy, McGee's Pharmacy and Acadian Ambulance for the many times they assisted us. He served so proud and strong in so many ways throughout his life. He touched so many and will be missed by so many but none more greatly than his family. In lieu of flowers, Daddy would prefer memorial donations be made to the Disabled American Veterans, National Headquarters, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301 or http://www.dav.org. Wilbert's Funeral Home, Port Allen, is in charge of arrangements. Published in The Advocate from 11/25/2006 - 11/26/2006.
