(Donaldsonville, La.) 1871-current, July 13, 1918, Image 2 Death of Jean Lapeyrolerie, Sr. - The Parish of Iberville sustained the loss of one of its pioneer citizens when, at 11 o'clock Tuesday night, July 9, Jean Lapeyrolerie, Sr., passed away at the ripe age of 86 years, 11 months and 22 days. Born at Civrac, Department de la Gironde, France, July 18, 1831, Mr. Lapeyrolerie came to the United States when less than 20 years old and settled at what is known as "the island." He worked as a baker and cooper, subsequently embarking in the cooperage and mercantile business, which he carried on very successfully before and after the civil war. In 1855 he married Miss Nysilda Hebert, and in 1905 the venerable couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Sixteen months ago at the age of 85 years Mrs. Lapeyrolerie preceded her husband to the grave. Henry C. Braud and L. W. Armitage, successful merchants and business men of this parish, received their first commercial training as clerks in Mr. Lapeyrolrie's store many years ago, Mr. Braud being employed there from 1867 to 1871, and Mr. Armitage from 1871 to 1875. After leaving this position they both came to the Houmas Store at Burnside. Mr. Lapeyrolerie leaves no relatives of any degree except one son, John Lapeyrolerie, Jr., who is well known in Ascension. The funeral took place Wednesday afternoon, with services and interment in the St. Gabriel Catholic church and cemetery.
