Tippen Chapel Cemetery is located about midway between the oldcommunity crossroads of Womack, Hwy 34 in Jackon Parish, Louisianaand the old Zoar Church and cemetery in the opposite direction onHwy 499. In 1902 George McDuffie Tippen, an ordained minister, donated a part of his land and founded and built Tippen ChapelChurch and also donated land for a family cemetery which he named Tippen Chapel Cemetery. The church was generally denoted denominationally as a Church Of Christ. Tippen Chapel Church is nolonger in existence but the family cemetery is still used by many descendants for current family burials. Tippen Chapel Churchwas originally located a few yards from the cemetery on the rightside of the cemetery if you are standing outside and facing the gateor on the road and you are facing the cemetery. It stood in the sameexact spot where the house that is next door to the cemetery now stands today. Walter Clement Tippen, also a Church of Christ preacher, assisted his father in the building of this church, was probably the first person to be baptized at Tippen Chapel Church. He was baptized by his father George McDuffie Tippen on June 14, 1903 in a stream known as Indian Creek which is near the church. Clement then became an Elder at Tippen Chapel Church. Today the Tippen Chapel cemetery has a fence and is clean and well kept and easily accessible. As of this date, July 1, 2003 there are 32 graves known and documented with headstones or markers and 5-7 unknown graves located and hopefully soon to be documented. George McDuffie Tippen purchased this land which was 159.52acres on March 25, 1902 for $14.00 with a United States Land Patent(homestead).
