NEWS-STAR Sharon Kavanaugh Ray May 16, 1935 Jonesboro, La., May 16-(Special)-A Jackson Parish "Folk School" was organized at a meeting in Jonesboro last Friday by Miss Mary Mimms of the extension department of Louisiana State university. Approximately 300 persons attended the meeting.Officers were elected as follows:W.H. McLauren, parish superintendent of schools, chairman; Rev. J.L. Dodge, pastor of the Jonesboro Baptist church, co-chairman; Miss Mary Vernon, secretary; John P. Cornett, superintendent of the agricultural department; E.L. Davis, assistant superintendent of the agricultural department; J.C. Shows, superintendent of civic education department; Mrs. Leila Head, superintendent of the home making department; Mrs. John Cornett, assistant superintendent of the music and arts department; Mrs. V.L. Brumfield, superintendent of the nursery department; Mrs. Era Poole, superintendent of the kindergarten department; Miss Nettie Jones, superintendent of the department for girls between the ages of 6 and 11; A.C. Smith, superintendent of the department for boys between the ages of 12 and 14; Mrs. D.P. Noah and Miss Jessie B. McLaren, co-superintendents of the department for girls between the ages of 12 and 14; Webb Swanner, superintendent of the department for boys between the ages of 15 and 17 years; Miss Leah Shell and Miss Mildred Shows, co-superintendents of the department for girls between the ages of 15 and 17.
