Jackson Independent March 24, 1939—Late Report—Just before going to press it was learned that the condition of Mr. Adams is greatly improved and it is believed he is well on his road to recovery. Mr. W.W. Adams, 29, of Cotton Valley, La. Former manager of the GEM theatre in Hodge is reported to be in a very grave condition at the Highland Sanitarium in Shreveport. A victim of a brutal attack Friday-evening. Mr. Adams was rushed to the Shreveport hospital suffering from severe knife wounds and with the report Wednesday that pneumonia had developed little hope is held for his recovery. Late Friday evening, after theater closing, Mr. Adams reached his home to be told that his wife who had just returned home a few days earlier from the hospital that there was so much noise outside their home that she could not rest. Mr. Adams stepped outside and found a group of men under the influence of liquor creating the disturbance. He spoke to them asking them to move on so that his wife, who was just recovering from an illness, might rest. The men turned on Mr. Adams and one of them cut him so severely that he was immediately rushed to Shreveport. Four blood transfusions were given him but beyond a short rally, following each transfusion little improvement was noted. Little hope has been held out for him from the first and with pneumonia developing Wednesday the doctors stated that there was but the slightest chance of his recovering. One of the men who have been identified as the one who attacked Mr. Adams is being held in Minden. Mr. Adams has a wide circle of friends in Hodge and Jonesboro who were shocked to hear of the terrible attack on him. The people of Cotton Valley where Mr. Adams has been located for the past two years are incensed over the matter for Mr. Adams was very popular in the town.
