All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Tracey Jackson Flossxing1@aol.com July 11, 2004, 2:10 am The Jackson Independant Tank Blast Injures Six Employees Five White Men, One Negro Burned Five white employees of the Southern Advance Bag and Paper Company of Hodge, with one negro employee, are in the Ruston-Lincoln Sanitarium at Ruston, suffering from severe burns sustaind early Thursday morning when a tank containing hot liquified wood pulp exploded, showering the six employees with the burning fluid. The white men are Jack Meek, John Charles, C. E. Corley, Crawford Rasberry and Gordy Williams. The negro, Manuel Rogers. Meek, Charles and Rasberry were formerly employees for many years of the Hodge-Hunt Lumber Company of Hodge. Corley, Williams and Charles, according to latest reports this morning were still waging a valient fight for life, while Meek, Rasberry and the negro, though dangerously injured, stand a better chance for recovery. Ambulances from here rushed to Hodge immediately following the accident and carried the injured men to the hospital, where Ruston doctors joined Hodge and Jonesboro doctors in alleviating the suffering workmen.
