The screams of the young ladies awaked the family and the negro ruffian fled, making good his escape and leaving no clue to his identity. On the following Wednesday night he again made the attempt and was this time captured by the father of the young ladies, who on the following day called a counsel of his neighbors. After deliberation they advised him as it was too late to reach Vienna that evening to keep the negro in custody until the next morning, and then carry him to Vienna to be placed in charge of the sheriff. The negro confessed his criminal intentions and acknowledged that he had entered the room on the previous Saturday night. That night a party of men who were unknown to the guard, took the negro by force and after carrying him a short distance from the house shot him dead. # # #
