It is reproduced exactly as written and printed. A GOOD MAN GONE After bravely and nobly fighting for life, ably assisted by Drs. Simonton and Smith, together with father, mother, brothers and sisters, a loving wife and a host of friends, Brother Benjamin F. Shows fell asleep in death in obedience to the Divinely appointed call which came on Jan. 2nd, at 11 a. m., 1908.Bro. Shows was born in Jackson parish, near Hebron, March 4th, 1879, being a son of S. J. and E. J. Shows. He professed faith in Christ and united with the Hebron Baptist church at the age of 15, and was baptized by Rev. H. C. Pugh. In this church he lived an honored and faithful member till his death. He was united in marriage to Miss Jennie Hawthorn in the spring of 1901. To this union were given three children, two girls and one son. Bro. Shows was not only a good Christian, but a man of splendid business qualities, having in a few years laid up a good competency for the loved ones left. His body was laid to rest in the Hebron cemetery in the presence of about 500 loving friends and a host of relatives, among whom were his father and mother, three brothers and six sisters. The funeral sermon was preached by the writer from these words: "If a man die shall he live again; all the days of my appointed time will I wait till my change come." The passing of this strong young man teaches us that death is no respect or of persons, and all therefore should be ready to say as did this young man," I have no fears, I am ready to go." A. J. WHARTON * * * * * * *Note: This young man was the son of Stephen Jackson and Emma Jane SorrelsShows. His wife was expecting a child at the time of his death. A daughter was born a few months later, and was given the name "Bennie" in honor of her late father.
