Memorial Rites Held For William J. Hammon
JONESBORI, La., Feb., 14-(Special)-
A memorial service for the late William J. Hammon was held in the
the courthouse in Jonesboro, participated in by all the members of
the local bar, the judge of the district and the district attorney.
Those taking part were: W.T. Holloway, W.E. McBride, district
attorney, Judge E.L. Walker, H. W. Ayers, J.C. Shows, district
clerk, L.L. Kilpatrick, president of the police jury, V.L.
Brumfield, of the state forestry division, and Rev. J.S. Henley,
pastor of the Jonesboro Methodist church. Many beautiful tributes
were paid to the memory of the late representative in the state
legislature and former district attorney. Mr. Hammon was killed in a
an automobile wreck near LaPlace while on his way to New Orleans.
