Loe dies after brief illness Newt T. Loe, age 79, of Quitman, died Sunday, November 20, 1983, in the Jackson Parish Hospital after a brief illness. Mr. Loe was a native of Quitman. He was a retired sheriff of Jackson Parish, having served two terms, one in 1960, and one term in 1968. Mr. Loe was a member of the National Sheriff’s Association, a member of Hodge Lodge No. 363 F&AM, and was a 32nd Degree Mason. He was also a member of the Highway Chapel Church of God. Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM Tuesday November 22, in the Buck Edmonds Memorial Chapel in Jonesboro. Rev. Tommy Long conducted the services. Burial was in the Antioch Cemetery near Quitman, under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home. Masonic graveside rites were conducted by the Hodge Lodge No. 323. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Annie Carson Loe, of Quitman; one son, Newt Lavelle Loe of Bossier City; one daughter, Mrs. Charlene Vail of Pasadena, Texas; two brothers, Elbert Loe and Lloyd Loe, both of Quitman; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren also survive. Pallbearers were Francis Lee Norman, Tim Norman, Gary Black, Donald Black, Archie Hinton and Bobby Loe. Additional Comments: Newt T. Loe was the son of Seymour Alexander Loe and Ada Nix.
