Ponder dies after lengthy illness Claude H. Ponder, age 94, of Quitman, passed away Sunday evening, July 16, 1989 in the Pine Hill Nursing Home, after a lengthy illness. Mr. Ponder was born in Lillie, but had been a longtime resident of Jackson Parish. He was a retired carpenter. Graveside services were held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, July 18, in the Antioch Cemetery near Quitman, Rev. John Smith conducted the services. Burial was under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Cenie Dry Trusty of Baton Rouge; one sister, Mrs. Mattie Myrtle Grissom of Shreveport; fifteen grandchildren, twenty-seven grandchildren, and sixteen great grandchildren also survive. Pallbearers were Mike Ponder, Johnny Ponder, Barry Ponder, Ricky Maxwell, Jerry Maxwell and Don Atkins.
