All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ************************************************ The Jackson Independant May 21, 1981 Gaar Peel succumbs to lengthy illness Gaar L Peel, age 64, of Quitman, died Sunday night, May 17, at his home following a lengthy illness. Mr. Peel was a lifetime resident of Jackson Parish. He had worked as a barber since 1939 and operated his own barber shop in Hodge for twelve years. He was a veteran of World War II and was a member of the Beech Springs Baptist Church. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 20 in the Beech Springs Baptist Church. Rev. Major Lewis, Elder L. C. Swanner and Rev. Eugene Brown conducted the services. Burial was in the Beech Springs Cemetery under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Margaret Peel of Quitman; four sons, Tony Peel of Wasco, Oregon, Todd Peel, Billy Peel and Chuck Peel all of Quitman; Three daughters, Kay Peel of Monroe, Ann Duck of Savannah, Georgia and Jenney Peel of Quitman; one brother, Elton Peel of Quitman; Three sisters, Agusta Womack of Shreveport, Sally Gilmore of Texarkana, Arkansas and Vera Peel of Quitman; five grandchildren also survive. Pallbearers were Wilfred Peel, Bobby Peel, Rickey Peel, Floyd Peel, Johnny Kelly, and J. W. Duck. Honorary pallbearers were Clyde Blaylock, R. B.
